THE ASSOCIATION’S HISTORY
The Association of Community Health Educators, AECS, is a legal/civil registered philanthropic non-Governmental Association of an educational nature. It is located at 128 Avenida Canal do Anil e Rua Melo #4, Jacarepaguá, Rio de Janeiro.
AECS was founded in May of 1996 by Rev. Barbara Mosley de Souza and her students of the Course for the training of Community Health Educators, to care for the victims of the ravaging floods of February 1996 which did such damage to the shantytown community of Canal do Anil.
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF AECS: to develop a health educational program, encourage the studies of diseases, their causes and prevention, to found and maintain a Health Center, which would serve the whole shantytown community, not only for medical treatment, but for health education and disease prevention.
